Nuclear Submarine Assembly Production

Nuclear Submarine Assembly Production

Customer:

Customer is designated a critical national asset supporting the UK’s sovereign defence capability. As part of a sensitive program aligned with the AUKUS partnership, Oxford Engineering is the sole export-authorised supplier approved to deliver mission-critical welded and machined assemblies. These assemblies involve deep technical complexity, with multi-level bills of materials exceeding 500 components for the primary system and over 300 for the secondary—reflecting the precision and trust placed in our manufacturing capability.

Scope Summary:

Oxford Engineering serves as the sole approved supplier for complex nuclear submarine assemblies under the AUKUS partnership, managing prototype-to-production transition for multi-level BOMs exceeding 500 parts for primary assembly and 300 parts for secondary assembly. The manufactured products require absolute precision for submarine platform integration with zero tolerance for cumulative error across multiple fit-up interfaces.

Candidate’s Performance Against Targets:

  • Successfully transitioned from prototype to full production despite initial tolerance challenges
  • Redefined key tolerances based on actual manufacturing capability assessment
  • Achieved 60% reduction in rework during prototype validation through improved GD&T allocation leading to production approval
  • Defined cosmetic finish standards aligned with end-use requirements, avoiding unnecessary polishing
  • Maintained exclusive supplier status for export-capable submarine assemblies

Support Against Functional Objectives:

Our manufactured products deliver mission-critical reliability for UK submarine capabilities, ensure consistent interfacing component mating without adjustment requirements, support CNC repeatability and QA pass rates essential for defence applications, maintain reduced lead times through optimized manufacturing operations, and provide surface treatments meeting aesthetic and performance goals without over-engineering.
